YOGA ALLIANCE 500-HOURS 2018
The one-month Intensive Yoga Teacher Training in Sri Lanka will run from Saturday the 19th May to Saturday 16th June 2018. It will be held at Camp Poe, a yoga and surf centre in Ahangama, south of Galle. Lara Baumann, founder of Quantum Yoga, will be running the course, co-taught by 500-hr Quantum Yoga teachers Sally-Anne Reynolds and Roanna Doleman. Dr Matthew Clark will be lecturing on various specialized subjects from Samkya philosophy, sadhu culture, Tantra and basic Sanskrit, as well as other guest speakers. Quantum Yoga teacher Ben Stevenson will be assisting the training, and is also one of the two managers of Camp Poe. Together he and Till (German), as well as the friendly and helpful Sri Lankan staff, well accustomed to catering to the needs of foreigners, will ensure you have a comfortable stay. Camp Poe is situated just across the street from Kabalana beach, arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in southern Sri Lanka, with fabulous swimming and a famous surf break called “The Rock”.
The Teacher Training is suitable for those who have completed a 200-hour training and would now like to develop their teaching skills further, deepen and intensify their understanding of the knowledge gained previously, and gain additional insight into the spiritual science of yoga.
The 500-hour program will run alongside the 200-hour Intensive Teacher Training, and as such you will act in the role of mature student, able to support and advise the less experienced trainees. You will therefore be working very closely with Lara, Sally-Anne and Roanna, thus acquiring the practical, pedagogic and psychological skills to guide students through stressful and pressurized situations.
The content of the course will be a further development and deepening of your understanding of the history, philosophy and application of yoga. In order to substantiate your knowledge of Quantum Yoga, you will be expected to further explore the teachings of Ayurveda and the significance of Quantum physics in the framework of asana-vinyasa, pranayama and meditation practice. There will be a chance to recap the subjects covered in the previous courses (see 200-hour TT content), and thus expand your knowledge on these from a solid foundation. You will be expected to develop from simply taking in information to now displaying the skill of clearly and succinctly imparting it to others, as well as relating it back to and integrating it into the realm of asana teaching. Thus part of the 500-hour course work will include a lecture prepared by you on a chosen subject. This may then also form your subject for a written thesis of 5000 words. You will be expected to have prepared an outline proposal for your final paper, which will be written after completion of the course (final submission date is 14th July 2018).
The assessment on the 500-hour course will consist of a written preparatory outline with handouts, to be approved by Lara, followed by the actual teaching of the class. The structure will need to follow the Quantum Yoga Grouping and Sequencing laws. There will have to be an explanation of the Assessment methodology, as informed by Ayurvedic principles. The sequence will have to have a clear theme, a peak pose (if appropriate), as well as the application of linking mechanisms beyond half-vinyasas.
Over and above the 200-hour classes, all of which the 500-hour trainees will attend, there will be an additional Practicum before the main morning asana-vinyasa class, as well our own Q&A session before the lectures in the afternoon. There will be regular meetings with Lara to review the study, practice and events of the course, in order to clarify their relevance and significance, preparing the 500-hour students’ ability to construct and execute their own elaborate yoga programs in the future.
With its fabulous shala, lovely pool, lush gardens, sprawling chill-out zone and delicious dining area, Camp Poe is designed for inspired relaxation post exertion. It is nestled in a quiet enclave of unspoiled tropical nature. There is a massage bed, pool table, dartboard, library, shop, slack line, hammocks and swings. The yogashala is equally suited to dynamic asana-vinyasa practice, as it is to silent sadhana. The centre serves yummy healthy food, perfect to provide fuel and delight for this challenging yoga journey. We will also be able to do some of the practice on the nearby beach, and we will organise a special event at Tri, a local sustainable luxury design hotel and spa, ensuring variety in an intense yoga immersion schedule.
