500-hour Yoga Alliance accredited Yoga Teacher Training in Galle, Sri Lanka
The one-month Intensive Yoga Teacher Training in Sri Lanka will run from the 15th June to 13th July 2014. It will be held at The Secret Garden in Unawatuna, a dedicated yoga centre, located in the heart of Sri Lanka’s most famous and spectacular beach strip, and yet tucked away in a quiet enclave of tropical gardens. It has various chill-out areas, hidden ambalamas (covered garden pavilions) and other lovely secluded spots to relax under. The dome-shaped shala equally inspires dynamic asana-vinyasa practice, as well as silent sadhana. Hence it is the perfect setting for such an intense yoga immersion.
Lara Baumann, founder of Quantum Yoga, and senior teacher Judith Daniel will be running the course, assisted by Quantum Yoga teacher, PT and A&P expert Aya Scrymgeour. There will also be visiting lecturers on various specialized subjects. The friendly and helpful Austrian owner and Sri Lankan staff at the Secret Garden speak English, and are accustomed to catering to the needs of foreign yogis. Many lovely beach bars, restaurants and shops are in walking distance, so there will be absolutely no problem to fill your spare time.
The Teacher Training is suitable for those who have completed the 200-hour training and would now like to develop their teaching skills further, deepen and intensify their understanding of the knowledge gained previously, and gain additional insight into the spiritual science of yoga.
The 500-hour program will run alongside the 200-hour Intensive Teacher Training, and as such you will act in the role of mature student, able to support and advise the less experienced trainees. You will therefore be working very closely with Lara and Judith, thus acquiring the practical, pedagogic and psychological skills to guide students through stressful and pressurized situations.
The content of the course will be a further development and deepening of your understanding of the history, philosophy and application of yoga. In order to deepen your understanding of Quantum Yoga, you will be expected to further explore the teachings of Ayurveda and the significance of Quantum physics in the framework of asana-vinyasa, pranayama and meditation practice. There will be a chance to recap the subjects covered in the previous courses (see 200-hour TT content described above), and thus expand your knowledge on these from a solid foundation. You will be expected to develop from simply taking in information to now displaying the skill of clearly and succinctly imparting it to others, as well as relating it back to and integrating it into the realm of asana teaching. Thus part of the 500-hour course work will include a lecture prepared by you on a chosen subject. This may then also form your subject for a written thesis of 5000 words. You will be expected to have prepared an outline proposal for your final paper, which will be written after completion of the course (final submission date is 15th August 2014).
The assessment on the 500-hour course will consist of a written preparatory outline with handouts, to be approved by Lara, followed by the actual teaching of the class. The structure will need to follow the Quantum Yoga Grouping and Sequencing laws. There will have to be an explanation of the Assessment methodology, as informed by Ayurvedic principles. The sequence will have to have a clear theme, a peak pose (if appropriate), as well as the application of linking mechanisms beyond half-vinyasas.
Over and above the 200-hour classes, most of which the 500-hour trainees will attend, there will be an additional Practicum hour after the morning asana class. We will have our own Q&A session before the lectures in the afternoon. Every day’s course work will conclude with an evening meeting with Lara to review the study, practice and events of the day, in order to clarify their relevance and significance, preparing the 500-hour students’ ability to construct and execute their own elaborate yoga programs in the future.
